west champs in 2012. live outside the coliseum, mike mibach, ktvu channel 2 news. >> just as recently as nine games ago, the oakland a's were actually five games out of first place. >> and they responded by winning their last six in a row, including a three-game sweep with the texas rangers. from 5-to-1, the a's come back with a 6-1. yoenis cespedes set what looked like a fly ball to center. but you see josh hamilton loses the ball. a drop for a two-run error. it gave the a's a 7-5 lead. >> the eighth had four more runs with the bases loaded. brandon moss shoots a single to right. nelson has problems on his own. all three runners score. a's up 12-5. then grant balfour gets michael young to fly out meekly to center. that ends the game. so for the second time in three days, the a's were popping champagne corks, for their division title more details now on the american league play-offs. the a's are the western division champs, as we mentioned, but their opponent is still up in the air. all depends on what the yankees do tonight. if they win, the a's will play the detroit tiergs. tigers.

people are looking for temporary housing after a fire burned their home. ktvu channel 2 reporter claudine wong has been there since 4:30 this morning getting a close look at the damage. >> reporter: good morning, tori. we have daylight. we can get a look at the damage. you can see how hot this fire burned. there was a partial roof collapse this morning. so waiting for daylight was very important for investigations to make sure it was safe so they can figure out what areas are safe to go into as they try to figure this out. we just talked to a neighbor who practically could feel the heat of the fire from his deck. he told us what he saw. >> from what i could tell, it was another oakland hills fire. it was so intense and so big. i thought what's going on here? it was just the one house. but it was very scary. >> reporter: when he first saw the firefighter, the firefighters were not called get. they got a call at about 12:15 and they got here and saw the fire was surrounding threatening -- the fire was threatsenning surrounding homes and they called for backup. there was one person

there is a dispute that happened in the city of glenn cove neighborhood. ktvu channel 2 morning news wopping wong joins us with more about the man accused of opening fire on neighbors. >> he said the sister martin he is a former marine and you can see the marine flag flying out in front of his home. the home of the toe people he shot was vallejo. i want to show you video as the coroner took the two victims from the scene. they are 50 and 58 years old. police say they walked with a gunshot the two victims and witnesses reported hearing 6 to 8 shots. police responded to the scene and said they led them to a 45 minute standoff. it did end peacefully with him being taken to a police car. we talked to one person who was shocked by the events. >> this is a quiet neighborhood. and from these guys, i mean they are very good friends from what i see and the guys always help around the neighborhood cleaning yards, help picking up garbage. >> do you know martin well? >> i see him, he comes around here, we chat, that is about it. >> do you think hip. >> was there anything going on between the two

early-morning fire in vallejo. ktvu channel reporter allie rasmus is live with the damage and information on how two people escaped the flames. good morning, allie. >> reporter: good morning. this fire started at:00 in the morning. now four hours later, investigators are going through the home trying to pinpoint what happened. firefighters are dousing the walls with water to make sure nothing flares up again. two people got out safely. more on that in a minute. first we want to show you the through. you can get a sense of how large this house is -- 3800 square feet. the size hans configuration of the house were both challenges for firefighters putting out this fire. so is the weather. it's warmer than unusual in vallejo and it is -- as it is in most pats. they had to bring in extra crews to relieve some of the firefighters who first responded to the fire. >> we went to three alarms on this. it -- it's a large house. it's an older house. my third alarm was to get crews on scene to help with the overall fire. >> reporter: two people were able to get out due to the smoke detector
